As we approach the Holiday Season I think it is a great time to remember one important aspect
of living in a small town, we need to SHOP LOCALLY.
I think most of us living in the greater Colfax Area do not want to see Colfax become just a stop
on Interstate-80 for a restroom, gas and a fast food bite.  We want an independent, productive
community!   To maintain that community we all need to participate in the local economy.
Shopping locally supports the community in many ways.  Not only does it keep our hard earned
dollars in town, it keeps businesses open and the town alive.  A local business does more than
just open its doors every day they provide jobs, not just in their business but because of their
business.  Think of the accountants, bookkeepers, repairpersons, custodians, and so on, that
each business uses.  Also the opportunities they give our children, through first jobs, internships,
mentoring.

Here are some local suggestions for your Holiday Shopping:

Handcrafted or Original Art items:
Take a walk down Main Street and you will find it at  Blue Cat Studio, Whistle Stop Quilt Shop,
Heritage Museum,
Colfax Farm & Feed Country Store (since a lot of you have searched for this
here is their phone # 530-346-2600, tell them you found it here, thanks)

One of a kind items at:
Antiques and Stuff, Shoestrings Antiques, Hair- N-Stuff (the stuff is some great antiques),
Community Thrift/Gift Shop

Late for a party and needing a hostess gift?
Try Basement Wines, Sierra Market, Colfax Market, Calamity Jane's

I’m Feeling Crafty:
Try The Puzzle People in the Fruit Exchange, Whistle Stop Quilt Shop, on Main, Community Thrift
Shop

Don’t have a thing to wear? A sweater to keep someone warm or some sparkle?
Try Marsons, Colfax Farm & Feed Country Store, Sierra Market (Colfax Themed)

A great stocking stuffer:
Try the Mane Tamer in the Fruit Exchange, Judy’s Styles on South Auburn, Old School Tattoo in
the Fruit Exchange, Ship It! (games, trading cards) on Church St

You need some power, as in tools:
Hills Flat Lumber, Riebes Auto Parts

Still stuck?
Here are some gift basket ideas:
For the caffeine nut:
½ lb of coffee from each of the 4 coffee shops in town: Basement Wines Cafe, Evagaline's, Buzz
Thru Joes, Starbucks, plus a pair of Colfax mugs from the Chamber of Commerce, put in a
handmade bowl from the antique store, along with some antique hand towels and you are set

For someone that deserves a relaxing moment:
A selection of soaps, candles from Mane Tamer, Judy’s Styles, Old School Tattoo, A Christine
Bonner CD from Rainbow Music, or Mane Tamer, a bottle of wine from Basement Wines or Sierra
Market

For the BBQ enthusiast:
A selection of award winning sauces from Sierra Market, a new BBQ from  Hills Flat Lumber

For the Artist:
Have a Giclee print made at Blue Cat Studio on Main St.

For Grandma:
A family portrait at Snapdragon Photo Studio, Church St

For the person who has everything:
A membership to Cal Star Air Rescue,
www.calstar.org,  a membership to  Fitness 4 Life, Zumba
Classes from Studio Z or a gift certificate for a massage or spa treatment at Electric Beach or the
Mane Tamer.

Donate time or money to a local group such as the Soroptimist Colfax Christmas Project, The
Colfax Friends of the Library, Angels Rescuing Kritters, The Salvation Army just to name a few

Don’t forget for your holiday parties Colfax is home to many great catering companies & places
for holiday parties including:  Hanfords ,  and Shang Gardens on Canyon Way, Sierra Market,
Giovannis on Hwy 174  Also desserts from Calamity Janes.

Having overnight guests?
Try Colfax Motor Lodge, Eden Valley Cottage 530-637-5100 or the Bear River Retreat for large
gatherings

Of course the ultimate gift a new home found  with help from yours truly (can't blame
me for trying) :)

With all the time and money you will save by not driving down the hill to shop you will be able to
enjoy the holiday more, spend time with your family, friends and community, taking time to
remember the true meaning of the season
